If a TV producer wants to put on a "Junkyard Hammer
War" I'd be proud to donate the moniker. <grin>

The contest is one of ingenuity not plan following and
rapid fabbing.

I've had to build a LOT of "field expedient" tools,
equipment and the like. If there were plans I would've
had to modify them or throw them out as inapplicable.
What it takes is a vision or solid idea of what you
need done, in how much space, with what power and
lastly a freewheeling imagination when you start
looking through the junk piles.

Of course there has to be a set of parameters to
follow, say a minimum ram weight. For instance; I could
make you a 1/4 oz. power hammer from Deb's sewing
machine in a few minutes but I don't think it'd be a
crowd pleaser. It certainly wouldn't make Deb happy.

Safety is the main consideration for something like
this and will be the stickiest thing to see to. Perhaps
heavyish expanded metal screens for the first few
tries.

On the other hand a contest to see which team could
follow a set of plans the closest from junkyard
resources could be very valuable.

No reason not to do both. Is there?

Ooooo, better TM that moniker before a TV producer
does.

Such an event would be fun, but I prefer to work from
plans. Maybe a mofidied "Junkyard Hammer War": Start
with plans, but have your preselected "junk" in a pile,
stock (if any) uncut, etc., at the starting bell.
