Rick,

My 300 amp welder works fine working off a 50 amp 220  circuit .

Different electronic math is involved,  Welders have - electrical 
guts- that change voltage, usable amps, etc.

Part of  Ries'  discription says he uses one Inverter tig welder, and 
one transformer tig welder.  That is kind of new electronical tech vs 
old electronic tech ...  If you go talk to your welding supplier, 
they might even offer to let you try out their -"loan-er" to try things out.
