[TheForge] Coat Hangers for Leathers / Pot hangers for fires

Tod,

I make tripod/spit sets the same way you describe, only I usually use 1/2" square or round (sometimes bigger) and make the legs 4 to 5 feet in length. I usually make S hooks, chains, etc. to hang pots from. I haven't made a trammel hook, but that would go well with such sets. It seems to me that the 1/4" you use would be too flexible to hold much weight. (But, I've never tried it.)

No rain just now.

Aubrey

I did get some mowing done the last time we had a dry day. If I let it go any
longer I could have baled it. Rained a bit everyday this week Got hit with
storms last night and this morning too. Oologah lake had just started to go
down but I bet It is up again. Having the Lake up makes it hard
to get to the boat but we have more lake to sail now. I should'nt complain bout
the rain because in August we will be begging for it.

I did a small demo at the Dog Iron Ranch (Will Rogers boyhood home) Made some
camp sets. They are 3 legs each drawn to a point. The opposite end of 2 legs
fold back on themselves and form a "U"shape. The third leg terminates in a
circle that catches the U shapes in the tripod form. This can either be used as
a tripod or a spit with the U shaped legs driven in and the ring leg as the
spit. The man who did the outdoor cooking demo used one and liked it. He said
the square spit held the meat with no slippage. The camp sets were made from
1/4 square. To me that seemed bout the right size, I think that I made the legs
a bit short. The legs are right on a yard in length. That makes em bout right
when in the spit configuration but a bit of a squatty tripod. Anyone have
experience making these? The camp sets were treated with a veg oil finish.
