I think another consideration on which size belt you are buying is where is
your source of belts. Will you get a better deal on 48 or 72
At Batson's Bader Co gave a talk and he said below 48 or inches the splice
costs more than the belt when they are made. He also recommended to buy
only the amount of belts you will use up in a year as the splices get old
and don't hold up. He also sold belts and didn't recommend buying old eBay
stock. Go figure.

I have $1000 to buy a knife (belt) grinder. I have the Multitool (36
inch belt) that I bought from Jeff Steadman at Toll Welding but I have
reached the point that I need a bigger one. I think 72 inch, but I have
recently read about 48 inch ones that seem good. Can anyone make a
recommendation?
