That may be true today, but it seems older units were honestly rated at 
their sustained output.   I have a number of old industrial units from 
the 50's and 60's that can put out their nameplate rating for days.   
They weigh three times as much as a contemporary unit.  Some of the 
difference is better materials and engineering, most I think is better 
marketing.
