I don't know about a front tined tiller but on a rear tined tiller as
Troy Built the drag bar sets the depth the tiller is allowed to till.
Pull the drag bar up all the way and the tiller will till to the full
depth of the tines. Push the drag bar down and it will keep the tines
from going any deeper than the drag bar. Even a Troy Built tiller will
"run away" if it hits a root or other untillable object. Drag bar or
not.
