That is a great idea!! Pizza businesses always seem to be changing too.
In that non-metal vein, I'd also suggest scrapping around granite
shops, say those that do kitchen and bath work, as I was able to scrap
some nice pieces of granite about that thickness, although they're
only ~1x2 feet big. One side is all polished... certainly this type
of setup is not portable tho :)
How big (area) is your forge table?
I'm now wondering if anyone has done a stone mosaic inside their fire
pot, since stone would last longer like clay/refractory, but I suspect
that clinker would not stick to stone. And for those with the right
local geology, slate seems like a natural fit. Also, I've decided to
use a kiln shelf in the floor of my propane forge (AND more recently
as doors to cover the half-round ends)-- it holds up great but seems
to take longer to get the forge up to temp now... I could coat them
with ITC100 but am not sure it'd be worth it, for now I can handle the
extra few minutes of waiting to get started.
All y'all's feedback is much appreciated.
