[TheForge] Kinyon Air Hammer Problem

I'm trying to trouble shoot a problem with a kinyon
style air hammer long distance, and I was hoping you
all could help me out.  This hammer is running the air
scheme from the AFC web site.  the guy that owns it
says it goes up hard, and comes down soft.  It goes up
so hard that it broke the die spring on the cylinder
rod.  

Can anyone suggest some probable causes of the
problem?
