Andy and Bob,
I live in BFE Ohio, the nearest VFD is just down the
road from me. I asked the chief to come over and
inspect my place. I did clean it up and clean out
stuff before he came to visit. I have 5 and 15
pounders fire extinguishers near every door way. I
also have two CO2 fire extinguishers that are placed
where needed, as I am doing things.
In the house I have a smoke detector in every room. I
a CO detector near the furnace. I have a workshop like
most of you in the basement, then I have a two car
garage that is my machine shop/smithy is at. There I
have two smoke detectors and two CO detectors. It has
several fire extinguishers in it, a first aid kit, Eye
Wash unit and most of the safety related things like
eye, ear, head protection, gloves of many types and
uses.
I went over board, my insurance agent got a copy of
the really great report from the fire chief. I got a
good reduction in my insurance, about $200 for very
comprehensive coverage
I forgot to mention that I donated a few things to the
fire departments annual auction. :)
Being out in the country side, doesn't mean you can't
be friends with the local folks.
