Bill, over the years, living in a rural area where wood was readily
available, I have built quite a few wood stoves from 55 gal. drums,
used water heater tanks and used well tanks. There used to be a
company named SOTZ that produced the kits. They were made from heavy
sheet metal and included the legs, door (air tight) and a collar for
the stove pipe. Sometimes I would add a plate of 1/4" steel to make a
flat cook top. These stoves worked really well considering the price.
I think that the SOTZ company is gone now but Northern Tool has a cast
iron kit that seems very similar and it's only $42.

I going to try to heat my shop with a wood stove. I need to heat approx. 18K cubic feet or 1500 sq. ft. Is anyone heating that kind of area with a wood stove?
