Of course that's ridiculous because almost nobody lives on the tundra.
We should really do this by center of mass - of population. I figure that puts the center of the US somewhere between Philly and NYC - i.e., in NJ

Okay, I think Ron and Rob are correct about the USA. But, when you add a lot of frozen tundra and mountain jungles on either end, the geographic center of North America is Rugby, North Dakota.
