I just thought I'd let everybody down south know Alaska
has a stable high pressure system perched on us right
now. Temps in my neighborhood are going to -14f lows to
+10 highs and it's forecast to go on for another week
at least. Interior temperatures have been much more
severe; Ft. Yukon hit -57f yesterday, Fairbanks has
been hoovering around -35 to -45f, -49f in McGrath, you
get the idea.
Not that cold weather should surprise anybody, it IS
Alaska after all but once the system starts to move
it'll go east, then south following the central plains.
The area between the Rockies and eastern coastal mtn.
range(s) extending from the arctic ocean to the Gulf of
Mexico.
So, in a week or so folk in the Dakotas, Wyoming and
vicinity can expect some sub-zero windy weather, a
little later in the week the rest of the mid-west can
expect cold and snow and finally the North East might
want to gird your loins for a bit more winter. Of
course by then it may head south and give the south
east a little winter magic instead. Then again it could
do both and treat the whole east coast. <grin>
The local weather guessers are saying this system will
(HAH!) start to move on around monday and our temps
might spike as high as 19f. (WooHoo) Unfortunately
they'll go back down almost immediately because what's
pushing this high off us is a bigger high pressure
system lumbering in from Siberia. We'll pass it on to
you too, when we're done with it.
Anybody remember what that stupid groundhog saw?
