Good idea MIke.
It's at least worth finding out which manufacturers out
there are willing to sponser a conference. There are a
number willing to advertise in the Ring and Blow.
Something said in an earlier post has been bothering me
a little. There was a statement that lead me to think
they believed an ABANA or other blacksmithing
conference should be reserved for blacksmiths.
It strikes me as an odd thing to think if that's what
the thought was. I personally think the more people
attending the better. I mean heck, a lot of us would do
this full time if there was a living in it for more
than a few. I'd be trying to get it covered by every
media I could scam into it. I mean really.
Come see the blacksmiths! FIRE! SMOKE! GLOWING METAL!
BIG HAMMERS! NOISE NOISE NOISE! See how it was done a
couple thousand years ago! Was YOUR grandfather a
blacksmith? Well, here's a single location where you
can tell hundreds of living breathing blacksmiths all
about it! Bring your horse, we'll SHOO it! (sorry, I
couldn't resist<grin>)
It's like the idea a student shouldn't or can't make a
buck while they learn. Foooey! What better way to
motivate a student than to show them there's a buck in
it?
So, what better way to sell your work than invite the
population of every country in this hemisphere to come
watch you?
