Actually oxy propane is nearly 1,000f cooler than oxy 
acet. There is a lot more going on than the absolute 
temperature of the flame though, BTU/sec being one 
factor. I don't know why oxy prop doesn't need to 
preheat steel very much to cut but it's well below red 
when it's ready.

Any oxy fuel torch will produce higher absolute temps 
as well as more useable BTUs in general because it's 
not burning fuel to heat the nitrogen in the 
atmosphere.

Allstates torches go to great lengths to mix the oxy 
and propane thoroughly, mostly by passing them 
over/through perforated swirl strips and chambers. I 
talked to Lyle about it for quite a while one afternoon 
but that was a long time ago. Gonna pass on taking mine 
apart till it stops working.
