It's a thought Jerry.

The problem that's stopped the previous attempts at an
Alaskan organization is distance. The Canadian border
is about 600 miles from our place and the nearest town
in Canada is Beaver Cr. Yukon Territories another
75-100 miles or so. White Horse is the first "city" and
an easy day's drive from the border.

At our last organizational meeting we had guys drive 9
hrs. in BAD weather from Fairbanks and three guys
pooled to come up from Kenai a 5 hr. drive in BAD
weather. Fairbanks is about a 7 hr drive on a decent
day and Kenai is a 3 hr. drive on a good day. We held
the meeting in Talkeetna about 2 hrs. north of
Anchorage and 1 hr. north of me to make it a little
easier on the interior guys who wanted to attend.

We're probably going to set up on a regional basis with
as loose an organization as law allows. There are guys
who're interested but they live so remote they'll
probably never attend a meeting. Phil and Jake the
Russian for instance

They can be a "chapter" (or whatever we call sub groups
of the club) and participate online. The internet and
decent connections in the bush is what's likely to make
this attempt at an Alaskan organization work.

As much as I'd love to see a large conference hosted in
AK I don't think we'd get a big turn out.

Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
<grin>
