[TheForge] Abana insurance

I have the Hartford's contents and public liability coverage, via Industrial
Coverage Corp. They do not underwrite teaching operations, nor do they
offer health insurance. I have brought the issue of teaching coverage and
medical insurance up, informally, with a couple of ABANA board members.
Given the current backlog of projects, I don't think they have the band
width to tackle this right away.

In some locales, Chambers of Commerce often make group health coverage
available. My local CofC does this through Kaiser/Permanente.

I have spoken with insurance underwriters who have told me that the risks
involved in insurance for smithing schools is so high that a Lloyd's of
London type carrier is likely the only entity that will underwrite
blacksmithing schools.

Maybe this is so, maybe not...not my area of expertise

Peter,

did you specifically speak with Michael Romeo, 800-242-9872 ext.115. He is
the one we dealt with when we were setting up the Guild's policy. I got the
impression he was the only one who seemed to know anything about
blacksmiths.

Or did you just contact your local The Hartford agent?

If Michael Romeo and THE HARTFORD / INDUSTRIAL COVERAGE CORP did not want to
provide you with coverage, ABANA should know about that. The add in AR
specifically says coverage for Hobbyists, part time and full time
blacksmiths. I am looking at the ad in the Fall 2007 issue of AR.
