There are several companies in Mexico doing hand forged components for
the american market.
Some of them even use $50,000 German ornamental iron machines to do the
twisting, texturing, and making the baskets.
I met a guy at the Flagstaff Abana conference who owned 5 factories in
Mexico, two of which did metal, and he sold wholesale to companies like
Crate and Barrel. He had brought his lead metal man with him from
Mexico, and they were studying like crazy at the abana conference,
watching demos, taking notes, buying books and tools, and looking to
move up from mig welded coat hangers to at least some forging.
