[TheForge] Stick rod vs mig

For some reason two pieces of steel welded with my stick welder will forge
out clean and pretty but when welded with my 185 Miller and whacked with the
power hammer, the steel looks like it is trying to delaminate. The heat
looks right, penetration looks good, the wire is just a solid mild steel
wire and the gas is argon & CO2.... 

It seems to do a good job structural welding so why won't it forge decently?
