Global warming is a crock. Variations in solar activity are primarily responsible for warming and cooling trends of planets. Mars is undergoing the same "global warming" we are and we can't blame it on Martian SUV's. I read a report a while back by a solar scientist predicting that the solar activity will back off by mid-century and we will have a global cooling. Similar to the severe winters of the mid-1800's. Remember all those Currier&Ives prints of snowy (deep snow) winters?
Peak oil is another load. We are not running out of oil any time soon. It may cost more to get it out of the ground, but they keep finding more. The government of Brazil just announced they found a huge oil field off their coast that may be bigger than the Saudi's. It will undercut the Venazuelan's share of the market. Technology is constantly improving. If we had to we could reopen many of the old oil fields here in the States and get the oil that's left. The oil companies only pulled 40-60% of the oil out of these fields before it was more economical to shut them down.
Will we see dirt cheap oil again? No, but we won't have an oil catastrophe either.
I have hope in the future.
