Many thanks for all the advice re drilling stone...specifically Belgium
blocks or granite. In the end I found a nice piece of Pennsylvania fieldstone in
my back section and was able to drill two 3" holes in it, in about an hour
and a half. Used a 1/2" carbide masonry bit in a hammer drill and then opened
it up with a 3/4" star drill and hammer. Did about 1/2" at a time. M'Lady was
okay with the fieldstone.

If I have to drill more granite like material I think I will just have
someone else do it. I dont want to make any more investments in tools and bits and
maintenance and etc., than I already have. and I already have too much
stuff. I need to work with what I have...one way or another.

But I now know a lot more about how to drill hard rock and thank you for
that.
