Handy stuff. I've used little bits of strapping for the springs in Viking style locks I've made. I didn't bother heat treating because the working distance the spring needs to move is very small.

Tom Latane' told me how once when he was camping he realized he had
forgotten a saw (he was planning to do some woodwork in the woods).
He solved his problem when he found a piece of metal strapping,
annealed it (he uses charcoal for all of his forge work anyway),
filed in and set the teeth and then hardened it after punching a hole
in each end....semi-instant bow saw blade.......
