While we are spending so much time on coffee, I have a
question for you
experts.
I don't brew coffie very often, only when we have
company. I have
some
coffee that tasted good when it was first opened, but
now is pretty
tasteless. Is there a way to bring it back to life?
Can I bake it in
the
oven, or re-roast it in a pan on the stove?
My wife has been using it for grit in soap, but it
doesn't take very
much,
and she doesn't sell a lot of scrubbing bars.

Robert,
that great foamy richness is from the coffee volatile
oils that leave at room temperature. Old beans that
have lost it have lost it. I suggest you freeze the
beans. repeated freeze thaw causes the beans to sweat
and get waterlogged so defrost a week's worth. Porto
RIco importing has a wide selection of beans freshly
roasted and mailed at 4.99 per pound for weekly
specials. Living in the boonies it was hard to find
good coffee reasonably. For 30 years of nights in the
ER, coffee was an essential.
about the little Ugandan bullets. As a resident i
worked at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center in
Tanzania when Idi Amin was still in power ranting
across the border. i used to drink the Tanzanian
peaberry which had a nutty sweet flavor at the coffee
board downtown, while milk became yogurt in its
containers on the hot street outside.
Now for the real work of the day. I plasma cut a hole
in the cap of the septic tank and need to cover it
with a new pipe for easier access and not have to dig
up the tortoise pen again to find the cleanout through
frozen ground like i have been doing for the last few
days. When i built the pen for the tortoises i built a
mountain in the pen atop the septic. City boy in the
country, lol.
And the ice storm that clobbered you in the midwest
has now surged to give us a foot of snow here in NY. I
hope you have all recovered and have electricity after
that whopper ice storm.
