The choices are your own, somebody else's or just because.
Individually there is no choice about the outcome.

Perhaps the same is true for the species.
Even if all the worst scenario's played out , with the exception of 
sterilizing the planet with an all out atomic exchange, I doubt strongly 
we can do anything to entirely eliminate our species. Too many of us, 
with unique strains running throughout, with too many isolated pockets 
to crawl into.
We may have to relearn the use of fire after it is all said and done, 
but that just puts us far enough back along the track that it would take 
another 10-30 thousand years to work ourselves back into the same situation.

We are not immune to the laws which govern every other living species. 
Over hunt, die, over breed, die, defecate in the cave, die, BIG comet 
hits ,die.

Maybe if we led the way by cutting this whole thing back.
What say that as smiths we give up our large carbon footprint, by giving 
up fire?
Go back to cold forging found copper?
