[TheForge] Moloch, pickle problem

Yesterday we were without power as we were recieving a large amount of freezing
rain. The weight of the ice was popping limbs off of trees and taking out the
trees themselves. One tree hit a utility pole and broke it off about 8 foot
above the ground, What a mess. The line crews had to cut their way in to the
damage. Most side roads that had trees nearby were impassable or nearly that
way. We were using the 2 fireplaces to heat the house and lanterns for light
The kids loved it, mebe I should just stay off the grid? I have three votes for
no electric, but the admiral vetoed it. I have trees down on the house, and both
shops. Yesterday my forge vent stack took a direct impact and flattened it. I
cannot get to that building today due to the amount of limbs in the way. We got
one more inch of precip last night and woke up at 0230 to "gunfire" outside the
window, after snaprolling out of bed and I came to my senses and saw the limbs
outside the window down, how it didnt break the window I do not know. We tried
to relieve as much weight as possible by pruning branches but today I see it
was a useless effort as the trees are just snapping off above where we pruned.
We are still recieving rain thats is freezing and it is estimated that we will
recieve freezing rain for the until Thurs. morning. Well at least I have the
generators ready and plenty of fuel if I need it. The bright side of all this
is that next year I will have plenty of firewood.
Tod.
