[TheForge] Trip Hammer Report (Longish)

Bob,

You are definitely right about that. It seems to do best in the 1/2-3/4 range, and that may be the range I will use it in most. But I have used LGs that seem to work okay on a wider range, say from 1/4" to 1". On the other hand, I have very little total time on trip hammers, so I have a lot to learn.

Aubrey

I think the fluttering is caused by trying to forge something without
setting the height of the hammer on the crank. Higher for big stuff,
lower for small. Try some different sizes of material where it is set
now. See if it smoothes out on say 1" stock but flutters if you try
1/2". Trial and error. It won't forge it's whole range without
adjusting.
