Hello all ;-)
Got back safely from Pennsic. Had my forge in camp, had 6 students, 5
of which had never touched a forge before. The 6th is a regular
student of mine, who bought his own forge through a friend. 3 of the
new students were adults, all did quite well, but I was particularly
impressed by Ben, who went from a complete newby, to forge welding his
first cable billet in the time I had to teach. Man has a good eye, and
an almost intuitive grasp of how things work. He and Speedy, the
long-time student, almost lived at my forge all War ;-)
And, there were two kids, one 9 who made his own hot dog fork, and a
13 yo who had apparently been bratty and bored all War, until I let
him make first his own tent stake, then an S-hook. Both kids were
terrificly enthused- their parents were thrilled by the changes in
attitude ;-)
Danr- that coil muller you make- is that your own design? And, if so,
can I copy it for teaching purposes? It looks like a great project for
students who need to learn some precision and use of tools other than
just the hammer and anvil, but who aren't quite ready for making
duplicates of other objects.
Hey, we're converting the world to smithing, one student at a time ;-)

Heat it up
Hit it hard
Repent as necessary.
Priorities:
It's the smith who makes the tools, not the tools which make the smith.
Denial of evidence is not refutation of evidence.
Blessed be the self-righteous, for they shall inherit themselves.
