I'm not sure but I think home supply stores carry only standard 60-degree
threaded rod while the original post was looking for acme threads. There is
a big difference and for the purpose described, acme threads are what should
be used.

don't know if it is any help, but I have bought fully threaded steel
such as you mention at Sears when I repaired my table saw.
