Jerry,
I have the HF planishing hammer, and was impressed by the finish on it
and how well it seemed to be made (relative to HF tools) when I first
received it. I got it for $129, and mine has the metal covered foot valve
(some are plastic). The air chisel/hammer/motor that came with it worked
for about one hour, but in all fareness to HF I probably was putting too
much air pressure through it. I bought 2 of the "heavy duty" chisels on
1/2 price sale for $10.00 each as a replacement "motor." One of the new
chisels fit, the other didn't: about 1/8" difference in diameter between the
two. Anyway, I think that it is worth what I paid for it. If you look over on
metalmeet.com, you'll find lots of pros/cons on the HF Planishing Hammer
and the HF English Wheel. I'll probably buy one of the EW's next time
they go sale, and it should be fine for my "hobby" use. Usual caveats
about any association w/ HF.
Dave
