Not beer, BEAN - I generally prefer beer myself . . .
I have one of these, made out of coffee cans (up at Ashokan several
years ago) and it works really well, perfect for smelting brass or for
making knives, for general smithing I find that you need something a
little bigger - this thing works great until you have to bend something
90 degrees - then it won't go back in. Great for knives or swords
though, heats up quick and cheap to run.

I googled Beer Can Forge and got a lot of information
about beer cans.
I have seen fire brick used to make a small cavity
forge, it works.
