I had a friend here at work that has since retired that owned a caboose.
The yard that he stored it at was just up the road and he invited me for
a visit. When I got there he showed me the caboose and then told me to
grab what I wanted...That included the 5'+ piece of rail that I have as
well as a 5gal bucket full of spikes...So for that I made him a nice RR
spike knife w/a nice drift wood stand that had RE magnets imbedded in
the wood to hold the knife on the stand. When he saw the twisted handle
he was amazed..."WOW, now that spike has seen a lot of heat" I recall
him saying...

I went over to the rail yards, with a case of BEvERages in the trunk of
my car. I told the guys what I needed, they sent me over to the guys who
redo the rails after and an accident. The cut a piece of rail for me,
beveled one edge for me. And they even carried it to my car, of course
they returned to work with some BEvERages.
