[TheForge] Question for Frosty!

I would pretty much agree with Frosty on jet ejector burner positions. They will
run slightly better facing vertical up then vertical down; not enough difference
to constitute a problem. The one thing that can be a problem with them is if you
don't make sure they are well clear of the exhaust gases; otherwise the spent
fuel/air mixture will be drawn into their air intakes and quickly destabilize
them.

I prefer to run them horizontally so the heat doesn't
chimney up the tube when you shut them down. If I'd run
metal propane line the last foot or so instead of
rubber hose it wouldn't matter at all. You can also
duct the intake air so the open end of the ducting is
below the forge and it won't chimney.
As for how they run; jet ejectors are robust inducers
so orientation doesn't make a significant difference.
If you do notice a difference in performance all you
need to do is tune for it.
Orienting the burners for forge performance is largely
a matter of preference. The two main orientations being
tangential and perpendicular. Tangential orientation
makes a vortex in the forge chamber for a more even
overall temperature. Perpendicular tends to make a hot
spot opposite the burner nozzle.
Either works fine with only minor pluses and minuses.

If it ain't forged
it ain't real.
Wrought iron is.
