When you are twisting a bunch of turns, a motor on the gear reducer is nice,
but ...
If you are twisting to create delicate twists or to get wavey lines, etc.,
you can put a hand crank on the input shaft of your gear box and get lots of
control. Sort of like the control you can get w/a hand-crank forge blower
vs. electric

Mike I think that "just the right amount" is a relative term
especially as it refers to Paley's work. Also, "just the right amount"
is sometimes determined by the tools that you have to work with. Here
