Hey, blacksmith is another craftsman you know.   I would think it unfair 
to paint all of them with the same brush. I have many friends that are 
indeed honest tradesmen/craftsman.  At the same time professional 
certification does not confer upon anyone honesty, or  integrity.  It 
does tell you that if the work is poorly done, then it is not an honest 
mistake.  While the mistakes that you cite might be simply incompetence 
or ignorance in a do it yourselfer or even general handyman, it would be 
nothing other than deceipt if done by a certified tradesman.
