[TheForge] Rust Finish

I rust several hundred pieces of sculpture each year and need to do it fast
when folks want something right away. The peroxide/vinegar/salt works the
best for me. 1 pint peroxide, 1/3 cup of salt and 1/2 cup of vinegar sprayed
on and then rinsed off an hour later. A few hours of rain really deepens it
fast or a mist from the garden hose.
Leaving the mixture on without rinsing develops a deep but to me an ugly
super dark mottled rust so I like to rinse it. If I forget just washing it
with a hose the next morning helps make it acceptable.

Subject: [TheForge] Rust Finish
Greetings,
Just wondering what everyone is using for a quick rust finish on steel. I
pickled mill scale off of some tube steel yesterday with muriatic acid then
sprayed some hydrogen peroxide for an orange, thin rust then clear coated to
fix. I'd like to acheive a darker finish quickly without buying
commercially available mixes like Jax or Sur Fin products. Is anyone using
chemicals for a rust finish that are readily available? Thanks.
Regards,
Bill Woolley
