I haven't been keeping up with events so this may be a stupid
question, but what does this mean for Claire Yellin's continuation of
her grandfather's business? I thought Peter's shop was her base of
operations.
Peter and Clare had hoped she might buy his shop and continue the business
there. But Peter's shop is considerably more than she needs and quite a ways
from her home. She has been able to find a suitable location closer to her home
in Bryn Mawr, PA and will continue the Samuel Yellin Metalworkers Company
from there. Chris Tierny who worked at the Yellin shop in Phila, and has been
working at Peter's shop for the past years, will go with Clare to her new
shop. We all hope the Yellin shop will continue for many years to come.
Incidentally, Peter is simply changing his priorities and wants to get away
from the business hassles of blacksmithing: the pressures of delivery,
physical effort, etc. Something many of us could well relate to. Peter has always
had a great interest in small engine design and repair, miniaturized replicas,
his little people and teaching. He will now take the time to do more of this.
Peter also has a very nice shop at his home in Arden, DE. Peter married
this past spring...for the first time...and at about 62, I think.
