I tried to have a compressor without paying for a big
honking unit. I had a compressor from a water
sprinkler type fire system with an external 60 gal
tank. It was not dependable, I did change out all of
the check valves, put a new control head on it and
changed the oil, it was not dependable, the belts
slipped no matter how tight I made it, I had a pulley
on it that would let go every so often because the
shaft was scoured, and just a lot of little problems.

Now I have a Campbell Hausfeld 6.5 HP compressor that
has a 60 gallon tank and then an aux 100 gallon tank.
Volume is the key to a good air system. I can run my
power hammer, as well as one or two other things and
the compressor kicks on every so often, but it is
tucked away bench a work bench, so the noise isn't so
loud. It does run a while when I am filling up the air
system, so I make sure the valves are tight and it
holds air pretty well.

I found gasoline near Cambridge Ohio for $1.98, I
think there is the Ohio Valley Knife show Friday and
Saturday.
