Jim:

Where are you located?  There are used machinery
places all over the east coast, many that I've dealt
with and had good luck with.  My main drill press is a
22" Buffalo that was manufactured in 1952.  I paid
$350 for it.  It has downfeed, and you can slow it
down to 32 rpms.  It will turn a 2" drill bit, and I
have a Jacobs chuck that fits into the morse taper
spindle.

I agree 110% with what Ries said about drill presses. 
Of the Chinese ones, I think the Jet's are the best. 
I have their big horizontal bandsaw.  The hydraulic
valve for the downfeed broke.  I called them and they
over nighted a new one to me the next day.  I like
their largest model a lot.

Two problems with most (if not all) of the lighter
drill presses are:

1.  They don't go slow enough, I think they are really
made for wood working.

2.  They tend to flex a bit (probably the table) so
you sometimes get angled holes.
