[TheForge] Etching Damascus

Okay, how about a little discussion about the pros and cons of the many different solutions that seem to be used for etching Damascus.  So far I have run across the following:
 
ferric chloride
ferric chloride mixed with white vinegar
murriatic acid
sodium bisulfate (worked for me)
sulfuric acid
 
I'm sure there must be more, and good reasons for using or not using them all.
