[TheForge] eliptical rings on a cone mandrel?

An ellipse has a specific mathematical definition: A*x^2 + B^y^2 = C
where x and y are the variables spec'ing the plane.
and A, B, and C are constants.

Oval means "egg-shaped." I think we all know what an egg looks like.

Oblong, in my experience, is a somewhat rounded-off rectangle. Rounded
off sufficiently, it resembles an ellipse, but would still be
different.

So what's the dif between an oval and an ellipse?
Is an "oval" just a way of describing any elongated roundy circly
thing, or
is there a mathematical description of an "oval"?
