[TheForge] A real Deal at HF- And other "stuff"

Check the "peak" and the "average" power ratings. If heavily loaded, a
motor will draw whatever it takes to do the work, even if it's not supposed
to do so for long lengths of time. Generally from what I have seen the peak
ratings are merely start up ratings. I have burned up several cheap motors
that had what appeared to be "impressive" ratings. What I do these days is
to lay on the load until I hear the motor start to load down. I figure that
at that point it is likely doing some work but not near enough to burn the
motor up. Of course, in a full time shop with a schedule, probably that is
not the thing to do. But when using "light" type equipment, this guarantees
it will last longer.

On the other hand, I have one of those yellow side arm grinders. Dewalt? I
can run it hard, until it's hot enough I can't hold it. It doesn't ever
smell of overheated windings and keeps on trucking. Good beast. Oh well,
my back starts to give out about the time that it starts to get real hot.
Must have been designed by someone older, who knows about not pushing the
body parts beyond their limits<G>.

All the best
