Actually Jet Tools was started by a Jewish American Scrap dealer in
Tacoma Washington, in the 50's.
He began by importing Japanese and Korean winches, comealongs, and
chainfalls, and slowly grew the business to the point where, by 1970 or
so, he closed the scrapyard and became all tool importer.
In the 80's, it was bought by a Swiss company, who still own it, along
with Powermatic, Wilton, Performax, and other tool lines.
They source their stuff from all over the world- I have seen Jet tools
that were made in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, Poland, Sweden, and
England.

Curiously enough, all my Jet machines were made in Taiwan- partly
because of how long ago I bought them, and partly because I figger if
you are gonna buy cheap crap, buy the best cheap crap you can- so I
always buy the best model Jet makes, and so far anyway, that means no
mainland china.
Jet's lower end stuff is pretty similar to the Enco/Harbor
Freight/Grizzly stuff, but I have had good luck with the bigger, more
expensive Jet tools- for instance, my horse and a half disc/belt sander
is about 10 years old now, daily use, mostly on stainless steel.
