As a practical matter it doesn't make much if any difference. I use all sides of my anvil regardless of the tilt. It just looks strange to have a sloping anvil. I suppose if I wanted to make up a reason I could say that I don't want to worry about round things (stock, chisels, etc.) rolling off the anvil when I set them down.

Why????
What difference does it make?
Do you use a level when you're working?
Unlike a machine, my arm, hand and swinging motion is always adjusting the angle of my hammer face in relation to the working piece, the hammer I'm using, any tooling and what I want to do at that instant.
If you can only swing a level hammer, maybe you should mount your anvil on a movable base that will adjust so your work is always at the same height and the angle is always the same and adjusts instantly based on your thoughts .... boring!
