Well this is dependant on me verifying that my rod is fine to lay multiple
passes with but I should be done welding after thursday...
Plan so far:
I have metals class 1st period everyday and 4th period everyother day so on
thursday I'm going to put the anvil in the oven 1st period, take it out and
weld the edges 4th period.
At 350 degrees my 230-240ish anvil will be a 'little difficult' to move and
my best plan right now is to move the oven near the welding table and
wearing thick gloves... I'm not sure if this will be possible but with thick
gloves that can be sacrificed I think that I'll have 10-20 seconds or so
before the heat hits.
I think that I'll enlist my teacher to weld the repairs. I can lay nice
bead with 7018 but the hardfacing rod is a little fussy. I'm sure that I'd
be able to figure it out with time but my welding teacher is very
expierenced and surely capable so I'm going to go ahead and take Peter and
Pheobes advice.
I'm contacting Ranite again tomorrow, I've already contacted them once
earlier but did not ask about laying multiple welds. If they advise not to
layer passes what would be a good filler rod? I've heard objections to 7018
but want to know what the better alternative is?
After welding should I peen? Or just pop the anvil back in the oven to cool
slowly or...¿?
The pictures are posted under anvil repairs on photo access, I ground out
all of the deeper gashes and cleaned up the anvil since after taking the
pictures.
Thanks,
Luke
