Rob,

You will LOVE having a platen table, damaged or not. Boy I hate to thick what they did to break off a third of one............

I have mine at standard workbench height, roughly 30". Cutting the cast iron platen with either oxy-acetylene or air arc will leave quick the slag mess to clean up.
I guess I would ask, why bother? I would consider just grinding the jagged edge to clean it up. I have an air arc I'd let you have cheap if you want. I haven't used it nearly as much as I had planned.
