I've had in-floor radiant heat for eight years now, a system that I put
in myself that is stupid-simple and cost way less than installing a wood
stove to code.
I just let the water circulate all the time for the four coolest months,
at night spring and fall, at about 90 degrees.
It's much more economical to just keep the slab warm than to try to heat
it up after it has cooled off.
Of course, that's not the case with systems that don't rely on massive
amounts of masonry...
Wouldn't have any other kind of residential heat, though I haven't tried
it in a shop.

When my feet get cold outside I just come in and stand around for a few
minutes and my feet get warm and I go back out.
