Mike, I never heard you sound so responsible before.........
Congradultions on growing up, making wiser choices, and being so sure of
your priorities of late...........
(there - that ought to make him go get it! :-)
Your 3/4 ton truck ought to pull a borrowed 5 ton tag along, pay some guy on
the hammer end to load it - then for $200 you make
sure it didn't get scrapped. I've saved two large hammers from the junk
yard in the past five years. (no the Nazel wasnt' one of them).
Both of them cost under $150 landed in my yard. A guy calls me when they
turn up - so I pay him scrap price for them. At least he's wise
enough to know they are worth something to someone.
Ralph

Thanks for the pointers. I guess I was right in not trying to haul
the thing 200 miles on my 3/4 ton truck, eh?
It looks like we may be able to move along toward getting this hammer
into some kind of permanent space for the Maritime Blacksmiths
Association. That would be a great home for it and it could be a
group project to refurbish it a well.
If I could get it home on the cheap, that would be fine, but hiring a
crane truck to make the 200 mi. round trip, only to end up with
another restoration project, another immovable object, is way down
toward the bottom of my TODO list.
