Hey Dan,
If you can meet local codes, use a water / air heat pump.
I like Florida Heat Pumps with the Cupro-Nickel heat exchanger coils. Will 
last forever with any water source including brackish water.
 Definitely get the hot water recovery unit installed.My recovery unit paid 
for itself in 2 years. I use an 80 gallon hot water tank hooked to it.
In Mississippi I can crank out more hot water than we can use during hot 
weather with the power off to the Tank, That's about 6 months of free hot 
water.
My FHP is fed by an artesian well that supplies 82 F temp year round and the 
outflow empties into a storm sewer.
Other water sources can be ponds, shallow wells, or you can install a closed 
loop system that circulates water and antifreeze thru a plastic pipe buried 
around the perimeter of your property. The more extreme the outside 
temperature variations are the better the water/air systems look.
