Not like Weygers shows in The Modern Blacksmith. At one point I did
make a light sheet metal shell that surrounded the "smoke box" [1], the
kind that stands beside the fire and sucks sideways. It was closed all
around except near the fire. A pipe at the rear fed the blower
intake. So air was drawn from near the fire, around the smoke box as
a heat exchanger and fed back to the fire.

It didn't do much to capture smoke during startup but it seemed to make
a detectable difference in how well the metal heated when the temp in
the shop was well below freezing.

When I built the new, stainless smoke box, I had too many similar
set-up chores and didn't put it back in place. The shaped tin is out
in my spare parts pile waiting for me to think I need it again.

if I'm not being clear on what I mean by a smoke box. But the
pics don't show the heat exchanger.
