Dave,
Zircar is the original source for many of my favorite things. Unfortunately,
they don't care to deal with the general public. Not that they'll just say
no, but I've found their pricing discouraging in the past. You will do well
to use their site for information gathering about products, and then try to
find a retailer for the products. Their bubble alumina refractory makes a
good example of the process.

You can find it in convenient amounts from:
Ellis Custom Knifeworks, Knoxville, TN. Tel: 1-865-660-5280 Home page:
http://refractory.elliscustomknifeworks.com/ Products page:
Refractory.EllisCustomKnifeworks.com Email: Darren at EllisCustomKnifeworks.com
They carry a wide selection of Refractory supplies including: Bubble
alumina; 8# Inswool ceramic fiber blanket in one & two inch thickness; soft
(insulating) firebricks; Satanite, ITC-100, and ITC-213 in small
quantities; Sairbond & Satinite refractory mortars; and Mizzou 3000° F, High
Alumina Castable Refractory (especially flux resistant). Their prices are
reasonable, and they have packaged the products in a rational manner for
USPS shipping.

Here is another seller who retails Zircar Porducts with reasonable mark-ups:
http://stores.ebay.com/HIGH-TEMP-REFRACTORY-STORE The High-Temp Refractory
Store is an Ebay retail source for small amounts of Thermal Ceramics
products at reasonable prices. What makes this source valuable is that
Thermal Ceramics products are cutting edge, but they do not like to bother
with small retail sales.
