It is pretty well established that the '08 ABANA conference will be in New
Paltz, New York at the SUNY campus,
with the help of host affiliate Northeast Blacksmith Assoc. The theme will
be "The Preservation of Fire".

We are open for suggestions for the 2010 conference however. In fact it is
my assignment as ABANA board member
to line up possible locations (and presentations from interested parties)
for 2010.

Obviously there are a whole bunch of qualifications that a location must
meet in order to be considered.
Proximity to public transportation, dorms, food service, communications,
high speed internet access, parking,
electrical services, gallery spaces, meeting halls, class rooms, corporative
staff, just to mention a few.
We have a packet for the officials of interested institutions.

You should talk to your contacts to see if they are interested in hosting
1,000 or so blacksmiths for a long weekend.
It is actually more like a two week process to set up and tear down.

Someone mentioned to me that Claire Yellin was trying to get the 08
conference situated in Philly but was having some trouble.  I have some
ocnnections at Drexel and perhaps even at Penn.  I don't have any of the
relevant contact info at ABANA, so perhaps someone could pass on that I
am more than happy to speak with my folks to see if there is any
interest approaching these schools.  Drexel has a good campus for it, if
a bit moderm for my tastes.  The real coup would be Penn.  Their campus
is so Ivy League it's ridiculous.  It would be perfect for ABANA.
